Lillian B. Zettel, 92, of Langdon, ND passed away Thursday, October 2, 2014 at her home in Langdon with her family at her side.
Lillian B. Lick was born February 4, 1922 on a cold, stormy Saturday to Rudolph and Pauline (Sperling) Lick. She attended Moscow country school until 8th grade. Lillian worked at Borusky Hospital in Langdon in the kitchen before she moved to St. Joseph, Michigan and worked at a hosiery mill during the war. After returning to Langdon, she worked at Mercy Hospital as a nurses' aide. On January 1, 1948, Lilllian married Richard C. Zettel in Langdon. They farmed in Manilla Township east of Langdon, and she worked for Olive Waltz at the laundromat in Langdon. Richard passed away in March of 2006, but Lillian continued living in her own home until October 2, 2013. Her last year was spent living with her daughter and son-in-law on Lake Ida in Minnesota.
Lillian loved to bake and would dig into her recipe books and watch cooking shows on TV even when she wasn't able to bake as often. She was very social and enjoyed going to play bingo. Lillian was a big supporter of the local Senior Citizens Center. She was past club president, delivered "Meals on Wheel" and played bingo at the club. Lillian was also a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church near Dresden and currently a member of United Lutheran Church in Langdon.
Surviving Lillian are her children: Richard A. Zettel of Langdon, Joanne (Bruce) Bjerke of Pelican Rapids, MN; grandchildren: Amy Bjerke, Aaron (Amy Ann) Bjerke, Andrew (Elizabeth) Bjerke, Devyn (Nathan) Haukedahl, Derek Zettel; great-grandchildren: Emma, Benjamin & Malia Bjerke, Logan & Madeline Bjerke, Kai & Talon Haukedahl; siblings: Emma Gerlach, Verna Lick, Delina Boyd, Norman (Patricia) Lick; and special friends: Gail Pearson, Deloris "Speed" Keaveny, Della Crockett, & Alma Crockett. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard C., and siblings: Teddy, Frank, Evelyn Shushman, and Elmer "Buddy".
Services: Monday, October 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at United Lutheran Church in Langdon, ND.
Visitation: Sunday, October 5, 2014 from 5-7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 prayer service at Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time at the church on Monday.
