Lester A. Hellekson, age 68 of Pembina, ND died on Sunday, February 18, 2007 at his residence.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at the Pembina Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Forest River Cemetery at Forest River, ND.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 22 at Pembina Lutheran Church.

Lester Andrew Hellekson, the son of Andrew and Ruth (Lester) Hellekson, was born on July 23, 1938 at Grand Forks, ND. He was raised in Forest River, and received his early education there.
Lester enlisted in the United States Navy in 1956 and served his country for three years, receiving his honorable discharge in 1959. He then went to work for Bell Telephone until his marriage.
He was united in marriage to Doris Strege on September 10, 1960 in East Grand Forks, MN. The couple moved to California where Lester worked for Rockwell International for 35 years. It was during their time in California when Lester attended college for three years. He retired in 1994, and they returned to North Dakota to live near Pembina and operate their farm at Lancaster, Minnesota.
Lester was a member of Pembina Lutheran Church, and Kern-Thompson Post #72- Pembina American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, camping, motorcycling, and NASCAR racing. Lester was an avid history buff, and was a loyal viewer of the History Channel. He also enjoyed westerns, both on television and in the movies.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife: Doris Hellekson of Pembina, ND; his daughters: Mary (Jim) Kurowski of Hillsboro, ND, Catherine Ann (Mike) Quiner of Pelican Rapids, MN, and Faye (Randy) Wasick of Manvel, ND; his ten grandchildren: Amanda, Jamie, Heather, Kayla, Kelsey, McKenzie, Dylan, Krysta, Cassidy, and Avery; his two great-grandchildren: Aaron and Carrisa; other relatives and friends.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents.
Clergy: Rev. Doug Heskin.
Casket Bearers: Jim Kurowski, Richard Margerum, Mike Quiner, Steve Strege, Randy Wasick, and Tim Wilwand.
Military Honors by the Kern-Thompson Post-Pembina American Legion.
Music: Grace Kain, Organist and Ron Mugge, Vocalist.
