Leonard Schill

Leonard Schill, 90, of Langdon, ND passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Essentia Health of Fargo, ND.

Leonard was born on May 10, 1921 to Charles and Mary (Koehmstedt) Schill near Mt. Carmel, ND. He attended Mowbray School and moved to Walhalla in 1936. In 1946, Leonard started Schill’s Welding Shop with his brother, Louie, which remained open for 11 years. Leonard married Helena (Dumont) Podhradsky in 1966 and worked at various jobs until settling in Washburn, ND to work for Coal Creek in 1976. Leonard retired in 1982 and did a wonderful job doing woodworking out of his garage. He moved to Langdon in 1994 and became a resident of Maple Manor Care Center in 2010.

Leonard loved playing cards, saying the rosary, and music. At the age of seven, he had already learned to play several string instruments. He later belonged to a band that was together for ten years. Leonard enjoyed watching the birds at the bird feeders and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Helena; siblings: Raymond, Father Vic, Charles, Louie, Lawrence, Fred, Anastasia Decker, Walter, Irene Klein, Martin, and Clara Schill; and step-daughters: Marie McLaughlin, Ann Gerlach, and Cathy West. Leonard is survived by his step-children: George (Darlene) Podhradsky and Betty (Duane) Arens, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law: Jack Gerlach and Morley McLaughlin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Langdon. Visitation will be at the Brooks Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 8 from 5 to 7 with a 7:00 prayer service. Visitation will also be for one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.

Interment will be in the spring.
