Leo J. Eppler age 80 of Walhalla, ND died on Friday, October 3, 2008, at the Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla, ND. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Walhalla Lutheran Church, Walhalla, ND. Visitation on Monday, October 6th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church. Burial in the Hillside Cemetery, Walhalla, ND. Arrangements with Nelson-Askew Funeral Home, Walhalla, ND.
Leo was born June 21, 1928, at Gretna, Manitoba to Jacob and Marguerita (Popp) Eppler, he grew up in the Gretna area where he attended school. Leo later farmed in the Walhalla area until his retirement. He served on the Walhalla Fire Department and was a member of the Walhalla Masonic Lodge and Kem Temple Shrine.
On November 25, 1947, he married Annie Friesen, she died on April 30, 1975. He then married Dorothy "Honey" Lucier on October 7, 1976, at Walhalla.
He is survived by his wife, Honey; children, Clifford (Lora) Eppler, Walhalla, ND, Susan Aker and Heidi Eppler both of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Amber, Brandon, and Amanda Eppler; Shawn Aker and Annie Eppler; great grandchildren, Shayanne Berry, Tennyson Eppler, Cassidy and Caden Aker, Savannah Soli; stepchildren, Michelle Lucier, Portland, OR, Jeffrey Lucier, Las Vegas, NV, Leon K. (Debbie) Lucier, Trego, MT, Sara (Kent) Carrier, Bozeman, MT; step grandchildren, Robert, Jennifer, and Jake Lucier; Courtney and Justin Carrier; step great grandchildren, Mikaya Lucier, Tanner and Tage Carrier; brother, John (Gertrude) Eppler, Palmeto, FL.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, daughters, Pamela Eppler and Patti Gibney; grandson, Scott Aker; three brothers and two sisters.
Clergy: Rev. Don Swenson.
Honorary Pallbearers: Retired Members of the Walhalla Fire Department.
