Lenora M. Sommer, 84, of Cavalier, ND went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier,ND. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 2, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. at the Our Savior Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Friday, March 1st from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Burial will be held in the Cavalier Cemetery.
Lenora was born March 25, 1928, near St. Thomas, ND to John and Mathilda (Pfeifer) Heuchert. She graduated from Cavalier High School in 1945, and then attended Mayville State College. She taught school for three years in rural Pembina County.
On October 9, 1948, she married Laverne Sommer at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural St. Thomas. After their marriage they farmed in the Cavalier area.
She was one of the original members of Our Savior Lutheran Church and a member of the L.W.M.L. Lenora was also a member of the Pembina County Hospital Auxiliary and a local homemakers club. She volunteered for Faith in Action, Meals on Wheels, and was named volunteer of the year at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital and Wedgewood Manor.
Survivors include her husband, Laverne; children: Curtis (Pamela) Sommer, Fargo, ND and Kevin (Connie) Sommer, Cavalier; grandchildren: Amy Sommer, Denver, CO; Gregory (Shelby) Sommer, Livermore, CA; Evan Sommer, Cavalier; Jeanna Sommer, St. Augustine, FL; brothers: Edwin (Dolores) Heuchert, Cavalier, Lawrence (Ida) Heuchert, Grand Forks, ND; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Arlys Timian, Cavalier.
Preceding her in death were her parents and an infant daughter.
Clergy: Rev. Mark Chepulis; Music: Connie Sommer, Organist; Casket Bearers: Wayne Clarksean, Tom Erovick, Roger Furstenau, Carlton Ill, Kurt Kemnitz, and Robert Schroeder.
