Lee E. Hartje, 79, of Hamilton, ND passed away on Friday, February 3, 2012, at this home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2012,at 11:00 a.m. at the Our Savior Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 8th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitaiton at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Cavalier Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred the Altru Hospice, Our Savior Lutheran Church, or charity of choice.
Lee was born August 1, 1932, at Hensel, ND to Alfred and Bertha (Abraham) Hartje. He was baptized on September 14, 1932, and confirmed on October 28, 1947, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He grew up in Hensel where he attended school. From 1948 to 1951, he served in the U.S. Army. After his discharge from the service he returned to Cavalier where he worked for the railroad.
On May 30, 1953, he married Anne Dyck at Hallock, MN. After their marriage they lived in Cavalier, where he worked for various businesses. In 2000, they moved to Hamilton. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Anne; children: Ruth (Lee) Russell, Vacaville, CA, Deb Hartje, Grand Forks, ND, Mike (Tammie) Hartje, Creswell, OR, and Ric (Brenda) Hartje, Grand Forks, ND; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one great great-grandson; sister:, Pearl (Donald) Well, Bakersfield, CA and brother, Sidney (Joan) Hartje, Shafter, CA.
Preceding him in death were his parents; children: Gail Dobson, Lorraine Hartje, and Steve Hartje; sister, Hazel Hartje and brothers: Harvey, Lloyd, and Ardell Hartje.
Clergy: Rev. Mark Chepulis
Music: Bettie Lou Stegman, Organist
Pallbearers: Clarence Boettger, Dennis Hartje, Gary Hartje, Carlton lII, Duane "Butch" Indridson, and Bill Nordstrom
