Laurie Bennett

November 11, 1955 — January 31, 2014

Laurie Bennett, 58, of Langdon, ND passed away on January 31, 2014.

Laurie (Dina) was born November 11, 1955, the middle child of five to Casey and Mary “Chi Chi” (Goulet) Johnson of Walhalla, ND. Having two older brothers, Randy and Richard (Keith) and two younger brothers, Mark and Steven; Laurie was the only girl. Married at a young age to Steven Bennett, Laurie had her oldest son Erin at age eighteen and her youngest son Duane almost three years later.

Laurie attended Lake Region Community College in Devils Lake, pursuing a degree in the medical field. After completing her course work and earning her LPN degree, Laurie and her sons moved to Mandan ND, where she spent the next eleven years in the health care industry. During that time, Laurie worked for Dakota Alpha and HIT Inc. helping the physically handicap live more independent and fuller lives.

In 1994, after some medical issues, Laurie and her sons moved back to Walhalla to be closer to family. A short time later, she traveled to Warroad MN to visit with her brother Steven and his family. What was intended to be a week-long visit, turned into a ten year stay. While in Warroad, Laurie started off working at Marvin Windows, but soon moved to the Lake of the Woods Casino as a change clerk and cashier. After a set of unfortunate circumstances, Laurie found herself again moving. In 2008, she moved to the Langdon area to be closer to family once again and was employed at Super Pumper and Alco in customer service.

Laurie loved to read and was known for being able to read an entire romance novel in a single afternoon. Although she enjoyed spending time with friends at weekend barbeques, celebrating their high school graduation or wedding; Laurie’s greatest pleasure in life was her grandchildren. She was a true member of the community and seemed to know everyone. Known by many to be happy and smiling, she wasn’t afraid to call you “hun” and tell you to have a nice day. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Laurie is survived by her children: Erin (Alice) Bennett of Walhalla, ND and Duane (Ayra) Bennett of Walhalla, ND; brothers: Mark Johnson of Walhalla, ND, Steven Johnson of Warroad, MN and Richard “Keith” Johnson of Roseau, MN; grandchildren: Nicole, Sera, Casey, Tayla and Ryley Bennett all of Walhalla, ND and great-granddaughter Rosa Arens of Walhalla, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Randy and two grandchildren, Lisa and Kayl Bennett.

Services will be held Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Walhalla, ND.
