Larry J. Wilwant age 68, of Pembina, ND, died on Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at Cavalier County Memorial Hospital, Langdon, ND. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 6, at 1:00 p.m. at the Pembina Lutheran Church, Pembina, ND. Arrangements with Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND.
Larry J. Wilwant was born December 17, 1938, at Hallock, Minnesota to Ray Sr. and Olga (Hartig) Wilwant. He grew up and attended school at Pembina and graduated from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. Larry taught school in Los Angeles, CA for one year and returned to Pembina to farm with his father, where he spent the rest of his life until his retirement.
He was an active member of the Winnipeg Jazz Society for many years. During Folklorama in Winnipeg he served as Mayor of the United States of America Pavilion in 1984. Larry was a member of the Pembina County Water Board and the City of Pembina steering committee to renovate the city community center.
On September 29, 1994, he married Margaret Powell Morgan at Newburg, ND.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; stepchildren, Brenden (Andrea) Morgan, Winnipeg, Manitoba and Michelle Morgan and her partner Ernie, Parksville, British Columbia; grandchildren, Keely and Aiden Morgan; brother, Ray Jr. (Darlene) Wilwant, Venice, FL; nephew, Gerry Wilwant, Yakima, WA and Eric Wilwant, Tampa, FL; niece, Bobby Gray, York Harbor, ME; and several great nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
