Larry A. Jerde, 58, of Sahuarita, AZ, formerly of Pembina, ND, passed away June 24, 2011, at his home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 2, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at the Pembina Lutheran Church, Pembina, ND.
Larry Alan Jerde was born January 7, 1953, in Aberdeen, SD, to Eugene and Mary Lou (Campton) Jerde. He graduated from Pembina High School in 1971. On March 30, 1975, he joined the Border Patrol where he was in the first established class for BORTAC (Border Patrol Tactical Unit). During his career in the Border Patrol he was featured in a news segment on CNN and also in articles in the Grand Forks Herald and the news magazine "American Profile". He was also a Spanish and driving instructor at the FLETC (Federal Law Enforcement Training Center) in Glynco, GA, and Artesia, NM, a supervisor in charge of the original Horse Patrol at Naco Station in Arizona, the first Senior Patrol Agent Cadre in the nation and one of seven to open the newly established Sonoita Border Patrol Station, where he also became the first line supervisor, and was the P.A.I.C. (Patrol Agent In Charge) in Pembina, ND, where his father also served. Larry retired from service with the Border Patrol on July 1, 2006, leaving with the honor of being named Top 10 in seniority nationwide. On February 27, 1971, he married Pamela Craig (best friend). He enjoyed reading American Western History and listening to old, country western music. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends, but more so the company. Most of all he was a proud son, father, and grandfather. Larry was a friend to countless people throughout his life and left lasting memories.
He is survived by his children, Sean (Shari) Jerde, Bottineau, ND, James Jerde, Phoenix, AZ and Janet (Arthur) Hallstein, Erial, NJ; grandchildren Brittany, Ashleigh, and Chanda Jerde all of Bottineau, ND; mother, Mary Lou Jerde, Pembina, ND; sisters, Sandy Jerde, Sydney, MT, and Cheryl Jerde, Rio Rico, AZ; brother, Steve Jerde, Bellingham, WA;
Preceding him in death are his father, Eugene M. Jerde; brother, Gary Jerde; and sister, Diane McCummings.
