Kenneth G. Carlson

Kenneth Carlson, 76, of Langdon, ND, passed away April 19, 2025.

Ken was born October 13, 1948, in Cando, ND, the son of Kenneth and Juanita (DeGooyer) Carlson. He grew up in Cando, ND, and graduated from Cando High School in 1966 then attended Valley City State College for a year before being drafted. He entered the US Army on February 14, 1968, and was in Germany from July 1968 to February 1969. He was transferred to Vietnam from March 1969 until he was honorably discharged in November of 1969. Ken married his high school sweetheart, DeLynn Bergdahl, on December 27, 1969, in Cando, ND. He then finished his college degree, a BA in Business Administration, and graduated from Valley City State College in 1972.

Ken started working for United Telephone as an accountant in September of 1972. Soon after, he became office manager then was promoted to general manager in 1984. He retired in 2010 after a 38-year career. After retiring, he became a board member and remained involved until his death.

Ken was a member of United Lutheran Church since 1972 and has been Board president, treasurer, and sang in the choir for 40 years. He served on the ambulance squad for 10 years from 1974 to 1984. Ken enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, gardening, and refinishing old gun stocks and barrels. He also had a hobby farm at his old friend, Don Quam’s, farm.

Ken was able to fulfill his bucket list, which included seeing the world through his love for cruising. He was in King Tut’s tomb and the pyramids of Egypt, the Colosseum and Vatican in Rome, saw pink dolphins and caught piranhas on the Amazon River, saw the Eiffel Tower and the Mona Lisa at the Louvre in Paris, and walked on the Great Wall of China.

Surviving Ken are his wife of 55 years, DeLynn; sons Eric Carlson and Nathan Carlson – both of West Fargo, ND; grandchildren: Sidney (Brady) Bernhardson, Kinzie Carlson, and Carter Carlson – all of West Fargo, ND; great-grandson Dawson Bernhardson; sisters Patricia (Jim) Burtness and Anita (Randy) Newman; brothers: Bob (Natalie) Carlson, Bill (Susie) Carlson, Kerry (Terri) Carlson; mother-in-law Arlene Bergdahl; brothers-in-law Roddy Bergdahl and Brad (Debbie) Bergdahl; sister-in-law Kathy Carlson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jack Carlson, father-in-law Ray Bergdahl, nephew Chris Carlson, and niece Sara DCamp.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at United Lutheran Church in Langdon, ND, with visitation starting at Noon.
