Kathleen Gibney, the daughter of Frank and Gert (Faulkes) Johnston, was born on October 18, 1924 in Carmen, Manitoba, Canada. She was raised in Gretna, Manitoba and attended school near her childhood home. Kathleen went to work early in life, helping her parents with home and family. She then moved to Winnipeg and worked there until her marriage.
Kathleen was united in marriage to Donald Gibney on May 10, 1946 at Cavalier, North Dakota, and to this union were born seven children. After their marriage the couple lived in Neche, North Dakota where Kathleen worked at the bank. They later moved to Grand Forks and she worked for the Army Air Force Exchange. They moved to Walhalla in 1970 and Kathleen continued her work for the Army at the P.A.R. site.
She was a member of the Park - Center Walhalla Presbyterian Church and the Walhalla American Legion Auxiliary. Kathleen loved playing bingo, knitting, playing cards, and cooking.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Shirley (Gerald) Scanlon of St. Charles, MI, Sharon (Michael) Hart of Emerado, ND, Sandra (William) Cooley of Waconia, MN, Charlene Berg and Debbie (Dwight) Berg, both of Walhalla, ND; her sons: Robert Gibney and Donald (Wendy) Gibney, both of Walhalla, ND; seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; brothers: Bruce Johnston and Donald Johnston of Winnipeg, and Jack Johnston of St. Malo, Manitoba; sisters: Marge Freeman of Fruitland Park, FL, and Florence Thom of Campbellsport, WI; other relatives and friends.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents: brothers Bill and Alex; sisters Dorothy and Jean; and one granddaughter: Angela Christine Cooley.
