Kathleen M. Delvo, 81, of Langdon, ND passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Maple Manor Care Center of Langdon, ND.
Kathleen was born November 9, 1934 to Anthony and Lavina (Schneider) Hoffarth at Mt. Carmel, ND. She graduated from St. Alphonsus High School in 1953 and was united in marriage to William J. Delvo on June 23, 1953. They made their home on the farm southwest of Langdon where they raised their three adopted children: Mary, Steve and Joe. Due to Williamââ¬â¢s failing health, they moved to Langdon in 1992 where she has resided since. William passed away June 8, 1995.
Kathleenââ¬â¢s love of the farm started when she was young and worked side-by-side with her father. She also loved to play cards, read, cook and bake, but her real joy was to be with family and friends. Kathleen was a member of the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Altar Society and Catholic Daughters.
If you asked our mom how she would describe her occupation, she would tell you housekeeper. Her true occupation or passion was caregiver, and we all witnessed this during her entire life. If you were fighting the flu or cancer- she was there to help you through it for however long it took, and it didnââ¬â¢t matter if it was California, North Dakota or Illinois. If you needed help, she found the fastest way to get there. She delivered meals on wheels and gave rides to the elderly in the area, often taking them to Grand Forks for medical appointments. It was hard for her to accept help as she always put others first. She loved her community of Langdon, and they have shown their love in return these last years by taking care of her as her health declined.
Kathleen is survived by her daughter Mary (Chuck) Briggs of Carol Stream IL and her children Nicole Certosimo (Kevin) Kehoe, Jill Certosimo, Alex and Kelsey Briggs; son Steve (Teresa) Delvo of Covington, WA and their children Rochelle Delvo, Steve Delvo Jr., Christopher (Lauren) Eckelkamp, Ashley Burton, Cassandra Woodall, Sebastian Delvo, Anthony Delvo; and son Joe (Janessa) Delvo of Fargo ND and their children Christopher and Andrew Delvo. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Connor and Cailyn Kehoe, Taylor and Carson Eckelkamp and Kallie Barquist and her siblings: Idella (Richard) Westacott, Gerald (DeAnn) Hoffarth, Daniel (CoraLee) Hoffarth, Lucille (James) Konze, and Cy (Barb) Hoffarth. She was preceded in death by husband William Delvo, her parents, brother Floyd Hoffarth and sister Verna DeMers.
