Karol Kvaal, 85, of Nekoma, ND, passed away Friday, May 4, 2012, at First Care Health Center of Park River, ND.
Karol Peder Kvaal was born to Peder and Ida (Borgen) Kvaal in St. Andrews Township, Walsh County, ND on January 9, 1927. He attended Nekoma Lutheran Church and went to Osnabrock Township School through grade eight. He worked on the Beasley farm for seventeen years. In 1944 he took over the family farm, raising beef cattle and small grain crops. He continued to farm until his retirement in 1994. He purchased his motherââ¬â¢s house in Nekoma in 1984 and belonged to the community of Nekoma. He lived there until entering the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Osnabrock just over three years ago.
Karol enjoyed farming, woodworking, movies, TV news and wrestling. He liked attending the Barley Show, other agricultural gatherings and auction sales.
Most important to him was his family. Karol was dedicated to caring for his mom for many years. He enjoyed sharing time together with his extended family. He cherished the visit to Norway where he was able to walk on the land where his father had lived. He loved showing his nieces, nephews, and their families new tricks and farm related activities.
Karol is survived by four sisters: Betsy Carlson, Fargo, ND, Dorothy (Earl) Gehrke, Roseau, MN, Ruth Cornell, Windsor, CA, JoAnne Presley, Sacramento, CA; nieces: Juanita (Larry) Eftefield, Mary (Dennis) Gustafson, Karen Denault, Betty (Rick) Brown, Erlene (Francis) DeCock, Pamela Hammond, Elizabeth (Edward) Hagen, Jeannie (Jessie) Garcia, Sherrie (Thomas) Dohnke; nephews: Robert (Vicki) Kvaal, Ricky (Cindy) Kvaal, Marvin (Ann) Johnson, Louis (Joan) Johnson, Louis (Joan) Johnson, Charles (RoseMarie) Johnson, Harold (Jane) Johnson, Ken (Anna) Johnson, Bruce (Shirley) Carlson, Michael (Jill) Carlson, Gary (Debra) Carlson, Merlin (Diane) Gehrke, Dwight Gerke, David (Monica) Cornell, Alonzo Presley and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, niece Janice Johnson, brother Francis Kvaal, sister Helen Johnson, and ten half-sisters and brothers.
Services will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Nekoma Lutheran Church of Nekoma at 2:00pm.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 6pm pm on Thursday at the Brooks Funeral Home.
