Karen Haraseth

Karen Haraseth, 69, of Langdon, ND, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away June 20, 2013, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.



Karen was born January 14, 1944 in Langdon, ND, to Raymond and Olive (Hodgens) Kern. She was raised and educated in Hannah, graduating from Hannah High School. Karen was united in marriage to Orris Gjesdal on August 4, 1962. They became the loving parents of five children: Tamera, Kerna, Stacey, Sherri and Lance. Karen was united in marriage to Gary Haraseth on April 30, 1994. Karen and Gary have made their lives together for nearly 31 years. For the past 20 years, Karen and Gary enjoyed winters in Arizona where they cherished time spent with friends, both old and new.What she loved most was her family - and especially her grandchildren.

Karen was born to help others, especially the elderly. She had a gift and utilized it by spending many years working at Maple Manor Care Center and many more working as a Home Health Aide through Cavalier County Social Services.

She spent her retirement years preparing meals at harvest time, playing cards, dice and bingo with her family and friends. Karen was an exceptional cook - she loved to entertain and was legendary for over-preparing - she wanted to have enough for everyone. She faithfully followed the Minnesota Twins for nearly 20 years. Karen had a love of history and was known to search her centennial books to look things up, finding the connections, and solving the mystery. Karen also loved her daily puzzles and crosswords. She was a longtime member of the Eagles Auxiliary, where she served as President, Secretary and Treasurer over the years.



Karen is survived by her husband, Gary, of Langdon; children: Tamera Gjesdal (Shawn O’Brien) of Winston Salem, NC, Kerna Borho (Brian Wirth) of Langdon, ND, Stacey (David) Roy of Langdon, ND, Sherri (Mark) Romfo of Langdon, ND; grandchildren: Bret Borho, Cale Borho, Jace Roy, Nic Roy, Matthew Roy, Mason Romfo; step-grandchildren: Tanner, Myca, Kaitlyn and Preston Romfo and Katie-Scarlett O 'Brien; siblings: Lowell (Robbie) Kern of Belfield, ND, LaRae (Rufus) Hildonen of Anchorage, AK, Richard Kern of Seattle, WA, ReNae (Gene) Steinke of Wales, ND, Claudia (Ken) Miska of Wisconsin, Rod (Darla) Ryan of Arkansas; and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws who were dear to her.



Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her son Lance, grandbabies Brooke Borho and Breah Roy, half-sister Paulette Ryan Davidson, half-brothers Greg Ryan and Brent Ryan, and sister-in-law Marvel Kern.



Services will be held on Monday, June 24, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Church of Langdon, ND. Family and Friends may gather at 1:00 p.m. for visitation.



Interment: Nekoma Lutheran Cemetery, Nekoma, ND.
