Joyce Wietstock, 80, Cavalier, ND died on Friday, August 24, 2012 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Church in Cavalier, ND. A visitation will be held on Monday, August 27, 2012, from 5-7 p.m. Burial in the Cavalier Cemetery. Joyce B. Hannesson was born on December 18, 1931 in Grafton, ND to Stephan and Sigidur Hannesson of Mountain, ND. Following her graduation from Mountain High School in 1949, Joyce attended the Mayville Teachers College, earning a certificate in education. Joyce taught in a rural school east of Mountain. The school building she taught in now serves as the Fire Hall in Hensel. Joyce married Curtis Wietstock on the Hannesson Family Farm on February 7, 1954. Curtis and Joyce lived in Hensel and in rural Cavalier, before moving into Cavalier on January 1, 1969.
Thoelke's Department Store called her to work in the Spring of 1969, Joyce was a fixture in the building at the corner of Main and Division for the next 42 1/2 years, officially retiring in December 2011. During that time the store was operated by the Thoelkes, the Nelson Brothers, and finally the Forbes'. Joyce was an active member of the Red River Valley Homemakers for over 50 years, a member of the Cavalier Legion Auxiliary, the Cavalier Red Hats and United Lutheran Church. Joyce loved to be on the move and also loved to play cards, being a regular at several card groups. Joyce is survived by 2 sons Randy, Cavalier and Leslie (Cyrisse), West Fargo; a brother Russell (Sherry), Mountain; a brother-in-law Gordon, Salinas, CA; grand daughter Chentel (Kayle) Dangerud, West Fargo; 2 great grand children Ella and Jake Dangerud, West Fargo; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; a son David; sister Beverly Walden; and sister-in-law Francis Carlson.
