Joyce Skjervheim, 82, of Langdon, ND, passed away Monday, September 24, 2018, at Cavalier County Memorial Hospital in Langdon.
Joyce Elaine Oakland was born December 23, 1935, in Langdon, ND, to John and Myrtle (Laken) Oakland. She grew up and attended school in Nekoma, Munich and Langdon. Joyce and LeRoy Skjervheim were married on April 23, 1956, at United Lutheran Church in Langdon, ND, and made their home near Nekoma. Joyce had various jobs outside of the home including working at the school, ABM site, and at a private preschool in Langdon. She was a member of WMF, which later became ALCW; Nekoma Community Club; and the Cavalier County Library board. She was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Loma and Nekoma Lutheran Church in Nekoma. Joyce had lived in Langdon for the last 15 years, moving in to Maple Manor Care Center in 2014. Joyce was an excellent cook and enjoyed reading and traveling. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving Joyce are her children: Donald (Kathy) of Langdon, ND, Jack (Joan) of Nekoma, ND, and Faye (Jesse) Baugh of Aldrich, MN; six grandchildren: Kayla Skjervheim, Paul Skjervheim, Seth Skjervheim, Mary (Josh) Moen, Jonathan Skjervheim and Emily Baugh; sisters-in-law: Margaret Oakland, Donna Klemisch and Mavis VanMatre; and brothers-in-law: Kenny Torkelson, Elmer Boesl, and Burnell Skjervheim along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband LeRoy; four brothers: Donald, William, Darrell, Danny; and three sisters: Hazel, Dorothy, and Brenda.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018, at Nekoma Lutheran Church in Nekoma, ND. Visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday, September 28, 2018, at Brooks Funeral Home in Langdon, ND. Burial will be at Storlie Cemetery near Hampden, ND.
