Joyce L. Nupdal age 74 of Cavalier, ND died on Thursday, December 25, 2008, at the Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 29, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 28th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Vidalin Cemetery, Hensel, ND.
Joyce Louise Skaro was born November 9, 1934, at Milton, ND to Martin and Rowena (Stewart) Skaro. She attended school at Milton and Inkster, ND.
On February 24, 1955, she married Erik Thorlakson. After Erik's death she married Marvin Stark and in later years, Marvin Nupdal.
She is survived by her children, Kay (Tom) Lyshoj, Dalzell, Il, Jim Thorlakson, Hensel, ND, Marty Thorlakson, Cavalier, Tom (Tammy) Thorlakson, Hensel, Nancy (Mel) Martin, Interlachen, FL, Connie (Keith) Johnson, Cavalier, grandchildren, Kirsten (Whitney) Sjostrand, Karin (Stan) Johnson, Karl Lyshoj, Erik Thorlakson, Carissa Thorlakson, Hope, Hailey, and Hannah Thorlakson, Josh (Tiffany) Thorlakson, Jeff (Miranda) Thorlakson, Melissa (Jordan) Woodworth, Jessica Martin, Jeremy Johnson, Kyle (Jessica) Johnson, Derek Johnson, 10 great grandchildren, siblings, Dorothy Slama, Cavalier, ND, Ronald Skaro, Fargo, ND, Betty Riske, Grafton, ND, Donna Slotto, Cavalier, Jean (Albert, Jr.) Markel, St. Thomas, ND, several nieces and nephews, daughter-in-laws, Kathy Thorlakson, Hensel, ND and Kim Thorlakson, Langdon, ND.
Preceding her in death were her parents, daughter, Shirley, husband, Erik, four brothers and three sisters.
Her life revolved around her family. She was a talented homemaker, gardener, and held various jobs in the community.
