Joy Hartje, 95, formerly of Crystal, ND passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Crystal United Methodist Church in Crystal.
Joy Beatrice Dinkel was born January 14, 1920 near Hoople, ND to Frank and Helga (Sveen) Dinkel. She grew up in the Hoople area before moving to Crystal when she was 12 years old. On March 12, 1938, Joy married John W. Hartje. While John was in the service, Joy worked for the telephone service. She also worked at the Record in Grafton as a proof reader and then as an Avon Rep for 42 years. Joy enjoyed scrapbooking and helping David with his stamp collection. She was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxillary.
Survivors include her children: Gwendolyn Skjold, Grand Forks, ND, Donald (Jan) Hartje, Sioux Falls, SD, David Hartje, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Jeffrey (Karen) Skjold, Cheryl Radtke, Mark (Denice) Skjold, Rebecca (Greg) Kramasz, Michael (Dannette) Hull, Donald (Tonya) Hartje Jr.; 14 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; son-in-law, Jerry Hull; brothers: Donald (Mary) Dinkel and David (Carol) Dinkel; sister-in-law: Jean Skaro and brother-in-law, Dale Hartje. Joy is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband John, daughter Margaret Hull, brothers: Ralph, Gordon, Frank and Stanley; and sister, Delores Hunter and two sisters in infancy, Betty and Mildred.
