Joseph S. Koehmstedt

September 12, 1934 — April 6, 2018

Joseph S. Koehmstedt, 83, of Langdon, ND, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, April 6, 2018, in Langdon.

Joseph Sebastion was born September 12, 1934, to Charles and Katherine (Boesl) Koehmstedt in Maida, ND. He attended school in Maida and Mt. Carmel. On October 25, 1955, Joe married Kristine Bjorg Hilda Peterson of Milton, ND, in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Joe and Kristine lived on the family farm in Maida and had four children: Cynthia (Jerry) Restad of Langdon, Rebecca (Jeff) Overby of Langdon, Larry Koehmstedt, and Jane (David) Hart of Langdon. Joe farmed until 2007 when they moved to Langdon. His love of driving allowed him to drive bus, beet truck, gravel truck and combines. He also pulled tanks for Simplot and continued driving his lawn mower up until last summer.

Joe loved to travel so he and Kristine went on several trips, including Iceland. He loved being surrounded by his friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He spent many, many hours in the gym watching his children and then his grandchildren participate in activities. Joe always loved to make people smile and laugh and lived life to the fullest. He was a faithful member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

Surviving Joe are his wife, Kristine, of Langdon; daughters: Cindy, Becky, and Jane; grandchildren: Ryan (Nicole) Restad, Chris (Jenni) Restad, Aaron (Kari) Restad, Katie (Cory) Hoffarth, Josh (Sarah) Overby, Justin (Megan) Overby, Shannon (Travis) Bjornstad, Austin Koehmstedt, Taylor (Jake) Carstenson, McKenzie Hart, Madison Hart; great-grandchildren: Keaton, Carter & Lauren Restad, Gunner & Reagan Restad, Tycen & Alexa Restad, Hallie & Reid Overby, Jaxtin & Hazel Overby, and Charlotte Jo Kristine Koehmstedt; sisters: Cyrilla (Lawrence) Kartes of Langdon, Frances Walz of Robbinsdale, MN, Kay (Jim) Duffy of Seattle, WA; sister-in-law Judi Koehmstedt and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Larry, brother Carl, sister Joyce, and brother-in-law Dick Walz.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Langdon, ND. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. Rosary and 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Monday, April 9, 2018, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time at the church on Tuesday.
