Joseph B. Halldorson, 66, of Mountain, ND passed away of natural causes on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. He was born September 16, 1942, in Devils Lake, North Dakota to Karty and Allie (Gudmundson) Halldorson.
Joseph was raised on a farm near Mountain, North Dakota and graduated from high school in 1960. While serving in the US Air Force he was a member of the honor guard serving the Washington, DC area. He also represented the service as a member of a competition rifle team.
He earned a masters degree in civil engineering from North Dakota State University in 1971. Subsequently, he was employed as a civil engineer by the US Forest Service at Missoula, MT. Later for many years, he resided at Mountain, ND where he pursued personal interests in varied causes and projects.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his son, Karty Joe (Rebecca) Halldorson, granddaughters, Olivia Grace Halldorson and Isabel Paige Halldorson all of Portland, OR, sister, Arliss (Charles) Fleming of Bismarck, ND, a niece, Rochelle Fleming of Seattle, WA and a nephew, Scott Fleming of Portland, OR.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at the Mountain Cemetery, Mountain, ND. Rev. Dave Siberg, clergy and military rites by the Bjornson-Sigfusson Post #227, Mountain American Legion.
