John Schlecht

John Schlecht age 72 of Cavalier and formerly of Minot, ND died on Thursday, October 26, 2006, at the Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the time of services on Tuesday. Burial in the Cavalier Cemetery.
John Schlecht was born January 14, 1934, at Sawyer, ND to Jake and Kathryn (Neiffer) Schlecht. He grew up in the Sawyer area and attended Newman Township School. From 1954 to 1957, he served in the U.S. Army. After his discharge from the service he farmed south of Sawyer.
On October 26, 1958, he married Julia A. Hoppman at Minot, ND. He farmed until 1976, then moved to Minot where he worked for the city of Minot from 1977 to 1998. In 2002, they moved to Cavalier. Julia Schlecht passed away on September 21, 2006.
He is survived by his son, Brian (Christal) Schlecht, Cavalier, ND; grandchildren, Alex, Sally Ann, Jasmin, and Brayson; sisters, Leona Lang and Louesa Schlecht, both of Minot, ND.
John was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Herbert. Clergy: Rev. Doug Heskin. Casket Bearers: Sheldon Anhorn, Greg Brunner, Matthew Brunner, Kelly Cluchie, Tom Horsley, and Bill Preston. Music: Christine Hughes, Organist and Kelsey Horsley, Soloist. Military Rites by the Lavern J. Thompson Post #11, Cavalier American Legion.
