John Peter Michels

John Peter Michels, age 70 of Cavalier, ND passed away on August 24, 2012 at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital in Cavalier. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, August 31, 2012 at 2:30 pm at St. Brigid of Ireland Catholic Church in Cavalier, ND. Visitation on Thursday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM & one hour prior to Mass on Friday, all at the church. Interment at the Cavalier Cemetery, Cavalier, ND.
John was born on August 28, 1941 in Rock Lake, ND to Elroy & Lucille (Mooney) Michels. He attended school & graduated from Bisbee High School in 1960. He attended meat cutting school in Toledo, OH. He married Roberta Kjellerson in Bisbee, ND on September 15, 1962. John worked in the meat cutting profession for over 25 years in several towns in North Dakota & Minnesota. He worked at Motor Coach Industries in Pembina, ND until retiring on July 1, 2008. He was active in St. Brigid of Ireland Church. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, dirt track racing, woodworking & especially spending time with his grand & great- grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta of Cavalier, ND; daughters, Polly (Brian) Wolf of Minot, ND, Sandra (Mike) Tomlinson of Turtle Lake, ND; seven grandchildren, Elisa Ratliff, Ericka Anderson, Stefan Wolf, Joshua Westra, John Westra, Myles Tomlinson & Marcus Tomlinson; three great-grandchildren, Aubrey Ratliff, Joel Westra & Jace Westra; son-in-law, Jay Westra of Washington D.C.; sisters, Louise Knudson of Rugby, ND, Marlene Hollinghead of Grand Forks, ND, Carol Tsang of Minneapolis, MN, Theresa Michels of Minneapolis, MN & Shirley (Robin) Hanser of Hanser, NY.
John is preceded in death by his parents & daughter, Barbara Westra.
