John Layhon

John Layhon age 73, of Pembina, ND died on Thursday, March 1, 2007, at the Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at the Pembina School Gymnasium, Pembina, ND. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 6th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Pembina Lutheran Church, Pembina, ND. Arrangements with Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or the Altru Hospice Program.
John Layhon was born June 18, 1933, at Pembina, ND to Alexander and Lena (Krishka) Layhon. He grew up and attended school in the Pembina area. John worked on the family farm, then served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959. After his discharge from the service, he returned to Pembina where he worked for local famers. John then worked as a meat cutter and bartender, before going to work at Motor Coach Industries until his retirement.
John was a member of the Pembina Fire Department, Kern-Thompson Post #77, Pembina American Legion, and the Eagles Club in Hallock, MN.
On August 12, 1960, he married Vera Torr Rosenboom at Upham, ND. She passed away on November 4, 1999.
He is survived by his daughter, Kristi Layhon, Stone Mountain, GA; siblings, Mary (John) Bordeniuk, Pembina, ND; Catherine (Ernie) Klegstad, Hallock, MN; Sophie (Mike) Zaharia, Minot, ND; Rose (Larry) Younggren, Hallock, MN; Doris (Ray) Heiser, Verona, ND; Annie (Frank) Bergh, Clearbrook, MN; Helen (Tom) Weleske, Hallock, MN; Alex Layhon, Lake Isabella, CA; Margaret Mattson and Barbara Hagen both of Columbia Heights, MN.
John was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Joan; and brother Mike.
