John Janzen

John Janzen, 95, of Devils Lake and formerly of Munich, ND, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Mercy Hospital of Devils Lake, NDJohn Janzen was born in Lustre, Montana on April 23, 1916. He was the fourth child of Cornelius C. and Kathryn (Fast) Janzen. The family lived in Montana until 1929 when they moved to Munich. John attended grade school in Munich. When he was older, he worked for various farmers.

On June 4, 1941, John and Marie Hoffman were married at the Salem Mennonite Church. Their first home was on Hwy. 20 south of Munich. In the fall of 1943, they moved to a farm northeast of Munich where they made their home for 39 years. John farmed and had a custom harvesting and trucking business. He was a member of the Salem Mennonite Church where he taught Sunday School for several years. He was also a member of the Gideon’s International. They retired and moved into Munich in 1982. In 2010 they relocated to Lake Country Manor in Devils Lake.

John passed away on April 18, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake, ND, five days before his 96th birthday.

John is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Marie; his son, Harvey (Maxine) Janzen of Munich; his daughter, JoAnne Daniels of Devils Lake; four grandchildren: BethAnn (David) Ullyott of Bakersfield, CA, John (Patricia) Janzen of Grand Forks, ND, Jolene Daniels of Devils Lake, ND, and Judy Daniels, Devils Lake, ND; four great grandchildren: Benjamin Ullyott, Andrew Daniels, Sarah Ullyott, Abby Daniels; brothers–in-law: Louis (Helen) Hoffman, Herb (Gladys) Hoffman; sisters-in-law: Evelyn (Walt) Roquet, Hilda Hoffman; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius and Kathryn Janzen; grandson, Scott Daniels; brother, Henry (Angie) Janzen; sisters: Katie (Sandy) Belsvig, Mary (Chris) Ellertson, Helen (Gerhardt) Borgen, and Sarah (Allen) Loewen; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Albert (Anne) Hoffman, Jacob Hoffman, and Ann(Clarence) Dick.

VISITATION will begin at 5pm with a 7pm Prayer Service on Friday, April 20, 2012, at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND.

SERVICES will be on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 11:00am, at the Salem Bible Church of Munich, ND.

INTERMENT: East Salem Cemetery, rural Munich, ND
