Joe Sigurdson

Joe Sigurdson, 82, of Walhalla, ND, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at the Pembilier Nursing Center. Funeral service will be held Friday, July 19, 2019, at 10:30 am at the Walhalla Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 18, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with a 7:00 pm prayer service at the church.

Gudmundur Sigurdbjorn Johannes “Joe” Sigurdson was born June 8, 1937, at Walhalla, ND, to Johannes and Ingiborg “Emma” (Bjornson) Sigurdson. He grew up near Svold, ND, where he attended school. On April 10, 1960, he married Mary Ann Christianson at Vang, ND. After their marriage, they lived in Mountain, ND, then made their home in Walhalla. He lived and worked in Walhalla until his retirement from Northdale Oil. He was also a partner in Big A Auto Parts in Walhalla.

Joe enjoyed spending time with family and friends, visiting and telling stories, hunting and reading the newspaper with his dog by his side. He was especially proud of his children, his grandchildren and his Icelandic heritage. 

Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; children: Doug (Connie) Sigurdson, Fargo, ND; Laurie (Kevin) Longtin, Walhalla, ND; Richard (Tracy) Sigurdson, Olivia, MN; and Janelle Sigurdson, Fargo, ND; grandchildren: Amanda (Grant) Larson, Michael Sigurdson, Hailey (Ross) Aman, Christopher Sigurdson, Taylor Longtin, Kaci Longtin, Carly Sigurdson, Abby Sigurdson, and Sam Sigurdson; step-grandchildren:  Justin (Katie) Bertrand, Chris Bertrand, and Brianna Bertrand; great-grandsons, Olin and Henrik Larson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Loa Dalsted and Sigrid Peterson and their husbands.
