Joe Sapa

Joe Sapa age 69 of Cavalier, ND died on Saturday, August 16, 2008, at the Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, MN. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at the Peters Lutheran Church, Svold, ND. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 19th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Leroy, ND.
Joseph "Joe" Sapa was born December 10, 1938, near Backoo, ND to Joseph and Mary (Dutchuk) Sapa. He grew up in the Backoo area and attended the Svold School thru the 8th grade, he then attended Cavalier High School.
On April 4, 1961, he married Donna Olafson at Cookston, MN. They farmed in the Backoo area and also had a painting business together. He also worked for other farmers and worked various construction jobs.
Joe's happiest moments were when his family was with him, he also enjoyed mowing the lawn on his John Deere, hunting, fishing, and visiting with friends.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Jerri (Lori Beth) Sapa and Brad (Lisa) Sapa all of Crystal, ND, Corey (companion, Joan Curry) Sapa, Thief River Falls, MN; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one great step-great granddaughter; sisters, Lila Finnson, Phoenix, AZ, Aggie (Les) Martens, Altona, MB, and Georgia ( Leroy) Nelson, Hillsboro, ND; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, infant son, Jeffrey; grandson, Mitchell Sapa; sisters, Victoria Hornbaker and Virginia Sagert, brother, Tony Sapa; also infant sisters both named Annie and infant brother, John.

Casket Bearers: Dale Hinkle, Jon Johnson, Terry Koropatnicki, Darren Olafson, Drew Olafson, Dennis Robinson, Curt Sapa, and Doug Sapa.
Honorary Pallbearers: All of Joe's Family and Friends.
