Jeri Lang Olson

d. March 14, 2008

Jeri Lang Olson age 56 of Cavalier, ND passed away on Friday, March 14, 2008, at her home, following 15 years fighting brain caner. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cavalier Presbyterian Church, Cavalier, ND. Memorials may be made to Concordia Language Villages Passport Fund, a cause she loved and supported for 25 years.
Jeri Lang was born March 8, 1952, at Hallock, MN to Douglas and Gladys (Nordling) Lang. She graduated from Hallock High School in 1970, and from Macalaster College in 1973. She then taught school for three years in suburban Minneapolis.
In 1973, she married Mark Olson at the Hallock Presbyterian Church, where she started playing organ for church services at age twelve. In 1976, she and Mark moved to Cavalier and began a home, a family, and a dental practice. Jeri worked with her husband until health problems made it impossible in 2005. Before she was stricken and for most of the course of her cancer battle she was an enthusiastic and creative community volunteer. She served two terms on the North Dakota Humanities Council, and was a story lady at the public library for many years. She and her associates in AAUW were instrumental in starting licensed day care in Cavalier, and she headed committees at church and for the Northeast North Dakota Heritage Association. Some of the things she loved were traveling, theatre, life long learning and her family.
She is survived by her husband, Mark; children, Britt (Matt) Jones, Duluth, MN and Hans Olson, Minneapolis, MN; granddaughter, Signe Jones; mother, Gladys Lang, Hallock, MN; brother, James Lang, Clearwater, KS; sisters, Jean (Glenn) Johnson, Grand Junction, CO and Jodi (Richard) Sugden, Hallock, MN.
