Ivan L. Gudjonson

Ivan L. Gudjonson age 93 of Walhalla and formerly of Hensel, ND, died on Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at the Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla, ND. Funeral service will be held Monday, May 8, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation for one hour before services on Monday. Burial in the Vidalin Cemetery, rural Hensel, ND. Arrangements with Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND.
Ivan Lawrence Gudjonson was born November 8, 1912, in Wynyard, Saskatchewan, Canada to Arne and Sigrun "Runa" (Sveinson) Gudjonson. After the death of his father the family moved to Pembina County, North Dakota. Ivan attended Mountain High School and Mayville State Teachers College. He taught in Pembina County prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in the Aleutian Islands and in post-war Germany. Following his discharge he taught school and farmed.
In 1964, he married Maude Fernand. Ivan and Maude retired in 1997 and moved to Cavalier and then to the Pembilier Nursing Center in 1998. Maude passed away in 2001.
He is survived by step-daughters, Anne (Robert) Cheatley, Langdon, ND and Delores (Marvin) Sharp, Fort Worth, Texas; sisters, Emily Morrison, Cavalier, ND and Ethel McMurchie, Seattle, WA; sisters-in-law, Bernice Christianson, Cavalier, ND and Winnifred Christianson, Fargo, ND; and several step-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.
Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Larus Christianson; brothers, Arne Gudjonson, Elmo Christianson, and Mayo Christianson; sister, Evelyn Hartje; and step-daughter, Francis Gravelin.
