Isabelle Elaine Metzger, 91, of Langdon, ND, passed away November 14, 2017, at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo, ND.
Isabelle was born November 7, 1926, to Finlay and Beatrice (Jorstad) Agar on the family farm near Calvin, ND, the oldest of six children, and attended country schools in the Calvin area. After graduating from Calvin High School in 1944, Isabelle attended business school in Fargo, ND, before returning to the farm and working in Langdon, ND. She married Oswald (Ozzie) Metzger on July 22, 1946, in Mt. Carmel, ND, and they made their home on the family farm where Ozzie was born and raised. They raised four children of their own and remained on the farm until later years when they made their winter home in Fargo and enjoyed summer months at the farm. Isabelle and Ozzie were married 67 years when he passed in 2013.
Isabelleââ¬â¢s greatest love was her family, often recalling memories of loved ones passed and stories from her childhood, with the help of volumes of photographs. She worked tirelessly to help run the family farm - milking cows, cooking, canning, sewing, running meals to the field, and entertaining for large family gatherings. Isabelle will be remembered for her dedication, determined nature, and incredible endurance combined with humor, musicality, and flair even to her final days. While growing up Baptist, Isabelle became Catholic after marriage, and as a self-taught organist, faithfully played for masses, weddings, funerals, and celebrations for over forty years at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. She also sang with the Sweet Adelineââ¬â¢s in Langdon and sewed performance dresses for the whole choir. She will be dearly missed by her family and so many who came to know her through the years. The family would like to especially thank the caregivers and residents at Bethany Gables and Bethany on 42nd, who became her extended family.
Isabelle is survived by her sister, Leanna (Dave) Schneider, of Bismarck, ND; her sons: Terry (Cathy) Metzger of Valley City, ND, Tom (Karen) Metzger of Sioux Falls, SD, Craig Metzger and fiancĩ Brenda Bush of Huron, SD; daughter Stacie (Garth) Heiden of Fargo, ND; grandchildren: Shannon, Bill, Laura, Angela, Daniel, Susan, Amanda, Matt, Garret and Paige; and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother Orven Agar; and sisters: Micki Amoth, Doris Warr, and Donna June Agar (infant).
