Isabel Yvonne Hartje

Isabel Hartje, formerly of Hensel, ND, passed away at age 100 on Dec. 13, 2024, in Rapid City, SD.

Isabel Yvonne Longtin was born Sept. 6, 1924, to Eugene and Alma Longtin on the family farm at Leroy, ND, where she grew up. She graduated high school at Walhalla, taught country school for one year, and then worked as a World War II Rosie the Riveter in Minneapolis.

She married Irwin Hartje on Nov. 29, 1945, at Leroy. They made their home in Hensel where they raised their six children, owned a general store, and Irwin was postmaster. Retirement took them to Cottonwood, AZ, in 1988 and to Rapid City, SD, in 2001. Isabel had resided at Rapid City Peaceful Pines Senior Living for the past six years.

Isabel enjoyed playing cards, knitting, crocheting, assorted crafts, and being with family especially her grandchildren as they were growing up. She was a member of the Rapid City OLPH Cathedral Catholic Church.

Isabel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Irwin of 60 years, brothers Alvah and Dwight, and sister Evelyn.

Grateful for having shared her life include her six children: Danne (Zelda) of Cavalier; Marcia (Doug) Hall of Mesa, AZ; Robert (Mary) of Rapid City, SD; Tracy (Mark) Seitz of Jamestown, ND; John (Lynn) of Sheridan, WY; and Roxan Kautz of Gilbert, AZ.

She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

A service will be held at a later date with burial in St. Brigid’s Cemetery, Cavalier, ND.
