Irene "Renie" Thorwaldson

Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 13, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at the Cavalier Baptist Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation Saturday, November 12, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND.

Irene Ethel "Renie" Flint was born February 17, 1922, in Cavalier, North Dakota, to Robert and Mary Victoria (Ladouceur) Flint. Renie attended school and graduated from Cavalier High School.
Renie married Louis R. Dietrich November 10, 1943. To this union 5 children were born: Dennis Dean, Gary Lynn, Carol Denise, James Louis, and Tracy Lee.
Renie married Wilmar "Bill" Thorwaldson November 16, 1973 in Reno, Nevada. They made their home in California and Nevada. They returned to North Dakota in the late 1980's when Bill retired. Bill passed away September 11, 1999. Renie worked as a telephone operator, bookkeeper, for local farmers during potato harvest and as Bill's right hand man and "gopher" on their many projects.
Renie was a member of the Cavalier Baptist church in Cavalier, and has resided at Wedgewood Manor since April, 2006.
She is survived by two sons and their spouses: Gary and Peggy Dietrich, Cavalier; Tracy and Carol Dietrich, Fargo, ND. Stepdaughters Jolyn Boyce, Draper, UT; Nancy (Stuart) Gurneau, Roanoke, TX; stepdaughter-in-law Patricia Thorwaldson, Reno, NV; Son-in-law John Hoekstra, Grand Forks, ND. 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by one sister, Bernice Hartje, Grand Forks, ND. daughter-in-law Debbie Shofner, Pengilly, MN. Brothers-in-law: Bob Schroepher, Antigo, WI and Al (Eloise) Thorwaldson, Billings, MT. and many nieces and nephews.
Renie was preceded in death by daughter Carol Hoekstra, sons: Dennis and James, stepson Richard Thorwaldson, sisters: Myrtle, Emma, Laura and Doris. Brother Larry Flint.
Renie passed away Thursday, November 10, 2011, at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND.
