Irene M. Thacker

Irene M. Thacker age 87 of Cavalier and formerly of Hamilton, ND, died on Monday, May 16, 2005, at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Brigid of Ireland Catholic Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 18th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Burial in the Hamilton Cemetery.
Irene Marjorie Gibney was born September 17, 1917, in Bathgate, ND., the daughter of Leslie and Clara (Lauzon) Gibney. She graduated from Bathgate High School and worked at the State School for the Blind.
On November 3, 1938, she married George L. Thacker in Bathgate, ND and they made their home in Hamilton, where they farmed. George Thacker passed away in January of 1976.
She was actively involved in the community and was charter member of the Progressive Homemakers Club, 4-H Leadership, St. Ann's Guild, and a member of the St. Brigid of Ireland Church.
Irene is survived by her loving daughters, Carol Menzies, Fargo, ND, Sandra (Kenneth) Kuznia, Stephen, MN, and Julie (Gary) Engebretsen, Merrill, WI, seven grandchildren, Kari (Jay) Achenbach, Robert Menzies, Cynthia (Jeff) Czapiewski, Joffrey (Melissa) Kuznia, Jennifer VanHorn, Kirsten (Bill) Wengeler, and Beth Engebretsen, nine great grandchildren, sisters, Ruth A. Brown, Cavalier, ND, and Helen (Jerry) Fullerton, Rotonda, FL.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother, Leslie Gibney, and son-in-law, Arnold Menzies.
