Irene A. Martinson was born January 20, 1931 in Thief River Falls, MN to Ray and Lila (Bakken) Martinson. She attended nursing school in Crookston, MN and worked as a nurse in Grafton and Cavalier.
On November 9, 1951, she married Donald Puppe at Crystal, ND. They lived in Hensel, where they raised their three sons. Don and Irene owned and operated Puppe's Bar until 1993.
She was very active in her church, where she enjoyed quilting and was a member of the LWML.
Her children and grandchildren will remember grandmas denim quilts, knitted wash cloths, knitting caps for children in need and her ability to always win at the card game Shang Hai! She also loved fishing and boating with the family. But most of all her zest for life and her willingness to help anyone at any time. She will be greatly missed by her family.
