Ilene Schanz, 81, Langdon, entered her heavenly home Saturday October 18th, 2008 at the Cavalier County Memorial Hospital in Langdon, surrounded by her loving husband and family.
Ilene was born September 28, 1927 to Wally and Inga Melland in Fairdale, ND where she attended school and graduated as valedictorian.
She married Leslie Fischer on October 19, 1948 and they resided in Nekoma and Langdon, ND until his passing in 1977.
She later married Orlin Schanz on November 10th, 1979. They made their home on their farm near Alsen, ND and in Langdon for the past 28 years.
Ilene will always be remembered as a thoughtful, caring and loving person. She was loved by everyone she knew and was called ââ¬ÅMomââ¬Å¥ by many children that were not her own.
A very talented women in so many ways, she was a fabulous seamstress and help many young brides with their wedding dresses. Sewing was her passion and loved to dress her doll collection.
She was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain.
Ilene was an active member of the Evangelical Church in Langdon where she had many friends and Pastor Dealey was considered a son to her.
Ilene is survived by her husband of 28 years, children Ron (Isabel) Sartell MN, Becky, Valley City, ND, Gayle (Jim) Retterath, Valley City, Terry, Devils Lake, Lori (Dave) Gray, Langdon.
She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren, one sister, Annie Skytland, Monticello, MN, one brother, Walter (Mae) Melland, Grand Forks, ND.
She is preceded in death by husband Leslie Fischer, her parents, 3 brothers, one sister.
Visitation will be held at 2pm, Monday October 20 at Brooks Funeral Home followed by a prayer service at 7pm.
Funeral will be at Evangelical Church in Langdon on Tuesday October 21, 2008 at 2pm.
Burial will be at Lebanon Cemetery in Langdon.

I have thanked God many times for all Ilene did for me when I was struggling with life, and even though over the years our paths seldom crossed I knew she was rt. there if I needed her, and now she's gone but never ever forgotten in my heart. To Orlin and Family, Our deepest sympathy is with you. We were just reminising about Ilene and talking about going to visit her when Earline comes to town. Ilene will be truly missed. She has been our friend since the early 50's. What a wonderful lady! She was every bit a lady!
