Hod W. Schurman, Sr. age 72 of Walhalla, ND died on Thursday, November 12, 2009, at his home. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, November 16, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla, ND. There will be a prayer service at 7 PM at the church on Sunday, November 15, 2009. Burial in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery. Military Rites by Bartlette-Resler Post #62, Walhalla American Legion.
Hod was born August 19, 1937, at Leyden, ND to John and Eileen (Cook) Schurman. He attended school at Banning, CA. In 1954, he joined the U.S. Navy and was discharged in 1957. On August 19, 1958, he married Anna Klaus at Banning, CA. Together they raised three children. They moved their family to Walhalla, ND in 1971, where he raised cattle and farmed.
He was a member of the Bartlette-Resler Post #62, Walhalla American Legion, and a past member of the Pembina County Stockmans Association and V.F.W.
Survivors include his wife, Anna; children, Erika (Mark) Bjornstad and Hod (Kristie) Schurman, all of Walhalla and Bridgette (Steve) Schwartz, Manvel, ND; grandchildren, Jeff, Travis, and Becca Bjornstad, Brittany, Brett, Brooke, and Jesse Schurman, Scott and Josh Schwartz; great grandchildren, Wyatt and Remington; nieces and nephews, Vickie Mayfield and her children, Hannah and Shannon, Temecula, CA; John and Chad "Chip" III Brinton; Jim, Kenny, Deanie, and Dawnlee Brinton.
Preceding him in death were his parents; stepfather, John Brinton; sister, Barbara LaRosa; and step brothers, Chad and Gene Brinton. Celebrant: Rev. Fr. Thomas Krupich. Organist: Bernadine Kopf, Soloist: LaRae Horgan, Reader: Spencer Clairmont, Honorary Pallbearers: "All of Hod's family and friends".
