Herbert "Herby" Pegg

Herbert Allen “Herby” Pegg was born May 3, 1932, in Cavalier, ND to Ernie and Eva (Chapman) Pegg. He was raised on the family farm and attended the Cranley School, Cavalier High School, and Hanson’s Trade School in Fargo. Herby worked at Chester Webb’s Service Station, John Hodgson Farm, and Page’s in Cavalier.

On July 14, 1956, Herby married Alvina “Allie” Baier in Glasston, ND. Together they had two children, Judy and Jeff. In 1960, he started Herby’s Auto Body, west of Cavalier, and also raised cattle for many years. Allie passed away April 14, 1985. On May 30, 1987, he married Beverly Simmons.

He was known for his sausage cooking during the Rendezvous and Threshers Events. In his spare time Herb restored a 1924 “Moon” antique car; participating in many parades and antique car shows for which he won many awards. Herby also spent vacation time to work during the American Crystal Sugar beet harvest campaign at the Hamilton and Bathgate receiving stations. In 2008, he retired from his auto body business and raising cattle.

Herby was a member and served as trustee at the Cavalier Baptist Church for many years. He was also a member of the Cavalier Curling Club, Northeastern Dakota Car Club, Cavalier Country Club, Pioneer Heritage Association, and Cavalier Cemetery Board. During his lifetime, Herby donated several gallons of blood, receiving recognition from United Blood Services.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly; children: Judy Pegg, Cavalier; Jeff (Maria) Pegg, West Fargo, ND; grandchildren: Rebecca Pegg, Pine City, MN and Seth Pegg, Fargo, ND; brothers: Harvey (Erline) Pegg and Kenneth (Lois) Pegg; sisters: Eleanor Stanley and Linda (Rick) Ream; sister-in-law, Merilee Pegg; and many nieces and nephews.

Also preceding him in death were his parents; brothers: Ralph and Norval; and sister, Lois Norgart.

Herbert A. “Herby” Pegg, 81, of Cavalier, ND passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cavalier Baptist Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Monday, March 24th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church. Burial will be held in the Cavalier Cemetery. Clergy: Rev.
