Herb Symington, 84, of Neche, ND passed away Sunday, February 26, 2012, at the Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 2, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cavalier Evangelical Free Church, Cavalier. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 1st from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier. Burial in the Union Cemetery, Neche
Herbert G. Symington was born May 20, 1927, near Neche to Lyle and Ida (Hughes) Symington. He grew up in the Neche area, where he lived his entire life, farming, and raising and showing Shorthorn cattle. From 1945 to 1947, he served in the U.S. Army as a medic in Texas. After retiring from farming in 1997, he worked for Mayo Construction of Cavalier for nine years until retiring again in 2006, at the age of 79.
On October 15, 1947, he married Phyllis Holman at Minneapolis. She survives as do his children: Bruce (Rosalie) Symington, Hot Springs, SD, Beverly (Ron) Ritteman, Cavalier, Cheryl (Stan) Stroyer, Rochester, NY, Deborah (John) Delaney, Gordon, NE, and Lyle (Angie) Symington, Neche; 19 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Chester, James, and Garth; and sisters, Francis and Gladys.
