Herb Bodensteiner

Herb Bodensteiner age 91, of Walhalla, ND died on Saturday, August 15, 2009, at the Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 21, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla, ND. Visitation on Thursday, August 20th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary service at the church. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.
Herb was born October 31, 1917, near Walhalla, ND to Joseph and Eugenie (Gapp) Bodensteiner. He grew up in the Walhalla area and attended Fremont Township School. Herb farmed in the Walhalla area his entire life, until his retirement in 1980.
On October 18, 1949, he married Patricia Sauer at Mt. Carmel, ND.
His greatest joy in life were his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing pinochle, golfing, baking, gardening, sitting and visiting with family and friends. Herb was a charter member of the Walhalla Knights of Columbus and was active in the St. Boniface Church and School.
Survivors include his wife, Pat; children, Mary (Tom) Cornett, Las Vegas, NV, Ann (Terry) Carson, Walhalla, ND, Jerry (Kathy) Bodensteiner, Wahpeton, ND, Jacinta Stilwell, Rapid City, SD, Jim (Mary) Bodensteiner, Fargo, ND, Arlene (Russel) Hardy, Prescott, AZ, 18 grandchildren, Suzanne (Tom) Karel and Nadine (Jon) Gibney; Jill (Steve) Briggs, Gregory, Carla, and Denise Bodensteiner; April and Allen Stilwell, Theresa (Dan) Lewis, Bryant (Jorja) Stilwell; Brianna and Courtney Davis, Jacob, Holly, and Isaiah Bodensteiner; Emily, Luke, and Celia Hardy; two step-grandchildren, Mandy (Kevin) Sandness and Tom (Katherine) Carson; eight great grandchildren, Shelby Karel; Ethan, Hayden, and Brynn Gibney; Katherine Briggs; Brayden and Ella Lewis; and Thade Stilwell; sister, Mary Gretter, Grand Forks, ND.
Preceding him in death were his parents, son-in-law, Jan Stilwell; great grandchildren, Zachary and Anthony Karel, brothers, Joseph and Albert, and two brothers and one sister, in infancy.
