Henry Wieler age 83 of Walhalla, ND died on Sunday, November 27, 2005 at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 1, 2005, at 2:00pm at the Walhalla Lutheran Church, Walhalla, ND. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 30th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the Walhalla Lutheran Church. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Hillside Cemetery, Walhalla, ND. Arrangements with Nelson-Askew Funeral Home, Walhalla, ND.
Henry Wieler was born December 11, 1921, near Walhalla, ND on a farm on the ridge of the Pembina Hills to Henry and Justina (Elias) Wieler. He was raised on the family farm and received his education at the Hilltop School. He also attended Sunday School there, which was organized by the Presbyterian Church. While going to school he was responsible for stoking the wood stove each morning before the other students arrived. As a young adult he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour and was baptized in the spring of 1942. As a child the family attended the Rudnerweider Church in Reinland, Manitoba.
On June 6, 1948, he married Mary Janzen at Winkler, Manitoba. After their marriage they attended the Bergthaler Church in Winkler; in latter years they belonged to the church they helped found, Maranatha Christian Fellowship. They farmed in the Walhalla area, an occupation he truly loved until his retirement in 1995. He continued to raise cattle until 2003.
From 1961 to 1993, he served on the Walhalla Clinic Board, and from 1993 to 1999, on the Pembilier Nursing Center Board. He also served several years on the LaMoure Township Board.
Henry enjoyed bowling and bowled in the men's bowling league in Walhalla.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, children, Reginald (Leona) Wieler, Cavalier, ND, Rosanne (Keith) Sandland, Roseau, MN, Norma (Doyle) Grindahl, Grafton, ND, Merwin Wieler, Williston, ND, Carol (Roy) Enns, Steinbach, Manitoba, Marilyn (Duane) Moen, Upham, ND, grandchildren, Robby Wieler, Lance (Tanya) Wieler, Rochelle, Trevor, and Bridget Grindahl, Nathan (Mary) Enns, Adrian, Cherry, and Jenna Enns, Hannah, Elizabeth, Amanda, Serena, Leland, and Evan Moen,great grandchildren, Gwyneth and Logan Wieler brother, William Wieler, Walhalla, ND.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Cornelius; sisters, Justina Letkeman, Margaret Wieler, and Anna Fehr.
