Helyne Wiese, 98, of Langdon, ND, passed away at the Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon on December 22, 2017.
Helyne was born October 13, 1919, the daughter of Fred and Lydia (Rappuhn) Raile of Fessenden, ND. In 1937, she graduated from Fessenden High School. She also graduated from Minot State University and then the University of North Dakota. She taught in Wells County rural schools, Washburn, Harvey, Minot Teachers College, Powers Lake, Broadus, MT, Drayton, Milnor, and Langdon, where she retired in 1984 after 36 total years of teaching.
She was married to James Wiese, of Washburn, ND, after World War II on May 25, 1946. James passed away in Arizona, February 20, 1997. They were married over 50 years and had three children together: William James Wiese of Scottsdale AZ, Karen (John) Boe of Langdon, ND and Jane (Danny) Mostad of Langdon, ND. She was blessed to have seven grandchildren: John and Laura Wiese, Kevin Boe, Jessica (Sean) Foss, Jill (Kurt) Wiedrich, Jeff (Brittanie) Mostad and Janelle (Eric) Frost.
The first 20 years after her retirement, she spent in Langdon and wintered in Mesa, AZ. In Mesa, she especially enjoyed her many friends and relatives. She had her friends, church, computer, water aerobics and bridge to keep her happy when she no longer could go on bus tours and cruises. She would say that she had the best of two worlds. She enjoyed knitting and hardanger embroidery, too. Helyne also kept busy being a member of United Methodist Church and their womenââ¬â¢s group, North Dakota Retired Teachers, Sigma, Sigma, Sigma Sorority, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Helyne was an avid educator and sports fan. In her children and grandchildren, she instilled a strong desire for education. She would fly back to ND from Arizona to watch her grandchildren participate in basketball, volleyball, baseball, track, hockey and football games. She was extremely proud that all of her children and grandchildren had a college degree and happily attended every graduation.
She was determined to stay in touch with family, friends and world events, so at age 80, she learned how to use a computer and would email family and friends frequently and check her online banking daily to make sure she was always earning the most interest on her CDs. In 2013, she learned how to use an iPad and follow her family and friends on Facebook and Facetime.
Late in life, she was happy to spend time with eight great-grandchildren: Maxum, Merek and Maverick Mostad; Sienna, Sierra and Shea Foss; and KayLynn and Kade Wiedrich.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lydia Raile; her siblings: Gordon Raile and Esther Olson; husband James Wiese; and grandsons John Wiese and Kevin Boe.
