Helen Marie Hallberg was born December 3, 1925, at St. Paul, MN to Otto and Helen (Sadowski) Hallberg. She attended school in St. Paul, graduating from Johnson High School. After high school, she attended Globe Business College in St. Paul and IBM School in Minneapolis. Helen then worked in the offices of the Northern Pacific Railroad Co. and Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company (3M).
On September 9, 1950, she married William Vistad in St. Paul. They lived and farmed in the Hamilton, ND area and spent some winters in Mesa, AZ. She was a member of the Hamilton Presbyterian Church, where she was active as an elder, teacher, and treasurer for the Presbyterian Women.
Survivors include her husband, William; sons: Tom Vistad, Cavalier, Dr. Bruce (Karla) Vistad, Fergus Falls, MN, Jeffrey Vistad, Seneca, SC, Kevin (Paula) Vistad, Devils Lake, ND, and William (Lynda) Vistad, Fargo, ND; grandchildren: Barney and Alan Vistad; Kjell and Lucas Vistad and Alysia Nelson; Christopher and Taylor Vistad; Courtney and Cynthia Vistad; siblings: Harold (Phyllis) Hallberg and Irene Hockemeyer, all of St. Paul.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Carl Hallberg; sisters: Lucille Boyer, Janet Hansford, and Mary Ann Norman; and half-sister, Mildred Heier.

Helen Vistad, age 85, of Cavalier, ND died on Sunday, January 23, 2011, at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 28, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cavalier Presbyterian Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 27th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton, ND.
