Helen F. McCurdy age 85 of Cavalier, ND, died on Monday, January 26, 2009, at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 29, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cavalier Presbyterian Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 28th from 5:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Cavalier Cemetery.
Helen F. Brown was born September 18, 1923, at Bathgate, ND. To Robert B. and Mathilda (Eichorst) Brown. She graduated from Bathgate High School in 1941, and the University of North Dakota in 1945. She taught school for seven years in Minnesota.
On October 28, 1950, she married Charles Richard "Dick" McCurdy. Dick served in the U.S. Army for two years and during that time Helen taught school in Thief River Falls. In the fall of 1952, they moved to the McCurdy farm near Backoo, ND.
She was a member of the Cavalier Presbyterian Women where she served as Moderator for two years, honorary life member of the Pembina County Hospital Auxiliary, serving as treasurer, and Wedgewood Manor Auxiliary, Order of Eastern Star, Tea Time Homemaker Club, served as leader of the Dakota Lassies 4-H Club.
Helen is survived by her husband, C.R. "Dick" McCurdy, children, Debbie Rham, Minot, ND. David (Deborah) McCurdy, Cavalier, ND, and Rita McCurdy, Golden, CO, grandchildren, Gregory and Kristin Rham, Sarah, John, and Kent McCurdy, Jordan and Taylor Tracy.
Preceding her in death were her parents, and brother and sister-in-law, Robert A. and Ruth Brown.
Clergy: Rev. John Wirth.
Casket Bearers: All of Helen's Grandchildren.
