Harvey Hope

Harvey Lee Hope, 66, passed away Friday, September 21, 2012 at his home in Langdon, North Dakota.



Harvey was born April 17, 1946 in Langdon, ND. He was the youngest of 5 children born to Albert and Lutie (Williamson) Hope. He lived on and cared for their family farm throughout his life. Harvey attended and graduated from Langdon Public Schools. He was united in marriage to Linda Kruk on August 22, 1970 at the First Presbyterian Church, and they spent 42 years building a life, family and farm together. Harvey was an entrepreneur throughout his life, building successful construction and seed cleaning businesses. His work can be seen across Cavalier County and throughout North Dakota.



The biggest joy in Harvey’s life came from family. He and Linda hosted many family reunions at the farm. They raised two children, and he could be found at every school function, recital, 4-H or sporting event cheering them on. He continued that tradition with his grandson, traveling to kindergarten graduations, baseball games and school programs any chance he got. He had a motto of “go for the gold”, and he inspired that in so many that came in contact with him.



Harvey also had a strong commitment to the community, proudly serving on the Langdon School Board, Cavalier County Commission and Hospital Board. He also maintained a strong connection to his church family throughout his life, serving on the session, leading the youth group for years and helping to plan the upcoming 125th celebration.



Outside of those formal commitments, Harvey took great joy in supporting the town he lived and worked in—whether that was performing in the community plays, travelling to cross country meets to cheer on the team, speaking at the Memorial Day ceremony or just stopping to enjoy a coffee and chat. Holidays held a special place in Harvey’s heart—you could see him visiting the school as a leprechaun bringing Irish blessings on St. Patrick’s day or playing the role of Santa for local kids at Christmas.



Harvey is survived by his wife Linda (Kruk) Hope; children: April (Hope) Nelson (Scott Nelson) and Nykolas Hope (Carrie Chaput); siblings: Margie (Hope) Lewis, Philip Hope and David Hope; grandchild: Tyler Nelson; aunt: Elizabeth Williamson and many brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and their families.



He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Kenneth Hope.



Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at the Presbysterian Church of Langdon.



Services will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Langdon.
