Harold V. "Whitey" Hornbaker, 83, of Cavalier, ND died on Tuesday, January 29, 2008, at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 1, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation on Friday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of services. Burial in the Cavalier Cemetery.
Harold was born January 11, 1925, near Backoo, ND to Archie and Twila (Hinkle) Hornbaker. He grew up in the Backoo area and attended school there and at Cavalier. Whitey served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp as a radio operator during WWII in occupied Japan. After his discharge from the service he farmed in the Backoo area until his retirement. In the fall of 2001, he moved to Cavalier.
Whitey enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and playing cards.
In 1945, he married Ruth Kilgore at Crookston, MN and she died on February 2, 1973.
He is survived his children, Ernie Hornbaker, Bangkok, Thailand, Susan (Scott) Sidelinger, Gardener, MA; Rick Hornbaker, Cavalier, ND; granddaughters, Terri, Tracey, and Dodi; great grandchildren, siblings, Threll Hornbaker, Thelma Moore, Gordon Hornbaker, all of Cavalier, ND; Jean Cameron, Reynolds, ND; and June (Paul) Karlstad, Portland, ND.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, infant son, John, and brother, Vern.
