Halla "Jean" Wimpfheimer

April 22, 1936 — January 16, 2024

Fargo

Halla Jean Wimpfheimer, 87, of Fargo, ND, formerly Cavalier, ND, and Grand Forks, ND, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2024, with her family by her side. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, April 19, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home in Cavalier, ND.

Jean was born on April 22, 1936, in Cavalier, ND, the daughter of Jerry and Nora (Maxwell) Kaercher.

She attended school in Cavalier, graduated from the University of North Dakota, and later taught Home Economics for Grand Forks Public Schools.

On September 14, 1957, she married the love of her life and best friend Charles Wimpfheimer. Together, the two of them enjoyed spending time with family, especially on holidays. They made their home in Grand Forks, ND, where they raised their children until retirement, then moved back home to Cavalier. There, they belonged to the Cavalier Historical Society and did some substitute teaching. She and Charles spent time playing cards and making short trips to Canada and the casino. She moved to Fargo in 2010 so that she could be closer to Charles due to an illness until his death in August of that same year.

Jean was full of life and loved spending time with family and friends. Her father called her “Wonder Woman” because he always wondered where she was. She was always on the go having coffee, doing lunch, attending bible study, being active in the Icelandic Club, and because she had a love for dolls, attended doll club. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, music, sewing, and snuggling with her cat Molly.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church, enjoyed visiting with the other members of the congregation, and was involved with many of the activities of the church.

She will be missed by many and touched the hearts of all.

Jean is survived by her children, Leslie Wimpfheimer (Mitch Bjornson) of Sherack, MN, Allan Wimpfheimer (Lori) of Grand Forks, ND, Jeri Wimpfheimer (Paul Heulsman) of Walcott, ND, and Ann Farmer (Tim Dusterhoft) of Fargo, ND; brother, Howard Kaercher of Cavalier; and sister, Patricia (Kaercher) Puppe of Moorhead; grandchildren, Alison Wimpfheimer, Matthew Farmer, Brandon, Brittany and Ben Bjornson; great-grandchild, Fynnlie Farmer; sister-in-law, Colleen White of Seattle, WA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Nora Kaercher, and her husband.
