Grace Schanz, 85, of Langdon, ND, passed away Saturday June 22, 2013, at the Cavalier County Memorial Hospital in Langdon.
Grace Maria Penner was born December 9, 1927, to John and Helen (Arens) Penner in Waterloo Township, Cavalier County. Grace grew up in Waterloo and Moscow Townships, in a musical home. She and her siblings spent hours playing and singing music together. This started as children and went throughout their entire adult lives.
Grace attended Bible School in Munich and rode the bus to school each morning. She walked home each afternoon, past the field where LeRoy was working. At that time LeRoy did not know she would some day be his wife of 66 years.
Grace and Leroy Schanz were united in marriage at Bethel Church on October 15, 1946. They made their home in Gordon Township, and worked together side-by-side in the fields and caring for the livestock. They also worked together as custom harvesters for 30 years, and formed life-long friendships with many of the families. They enjoyed traveling, and in their later years made numerous trips to California to travel with her sister, Doris, and brother-in-law, Vernon.
Some of Graceââ¬â¢s interests were; Church Youth Counselor, avid collector of angels, butterflies and dolls. She also spent much time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who meant the world to her, and always shared her faith with them.
Grace is survived by her husband LeRoy of Langdon; children: Aldra Sullivan of Grand Forks, ND, Ricky (Virginia) Schanz of Langdon, ND, Darla (Hugh) Matt of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Brock (Robin) Sullivan, Shawn (Jenny) Sullivan, Kyle (Dawn) Sullivan, Marissa Sullivan, Chris Tennyson, Darrick (Erin) Schanz, Bryan (Heather) Schanz, Kristina (Don) Stahl, Natasha (Josh) Cramer, Ariel (Jake) Schmitt; great-grandchildren: Breanna, Deuce, Tristan, Autumn, Kacey, Aaron, Mariah, Isabella, Gabriel, Faith, Piper, Zach, Hannah, Cameron, Mataya, Shali, Carsyn, Devyn, and one baby boy on the way; siblings: Loretta (Clifford) Bergley of Moscow, ID, NeMona (Alan) Heck of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Doris (Vernon) Clark of Vacaville, CA; sister-in-law Shirley Johnson of Moorhead, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, brother Martin, an infant brother Henry, and a toddler brother Edward, and sister Marjorie (George) Plummer.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND from 5 to 7 pm.
Services will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 10:00am at the Emmanuel Evangelical Church of Langdon, ND with the Pastor Joe Moutria Officiating.
Interment Lebanon Cemetery, Langdon, ND
