Gotfred C. Markestad, 83, of Maddock, ND died Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. Memorial service will be held Saturday, December 22, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Cavalier Cemetery. Arrangements with Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier.
Gotfred C. Markestad was born March 1, 1924, at Maddock, ND to Thorvold and Christine (Skare) Markestad. He grew up on the family farm near Hesper, ND, where he attended school.
On November 2, 1949, he married Marian Wold at Maddock. After their marriage they lived and farmed on the family farm until October of 2007, when he moved to Cavalier. In addition to farming, he was very skilled in mechanics, welding, and woodworking. After his retirement from farming he enjoyed touring the countryside checking on crops. He was always willing to give a helping hand to his friends and neighbors. Gotfred was a lifelong member of the North Viking Lutheran Church, where he was a past member of the board of trustees.
He is survived by his wife, Marian; daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" (Richard) Jenson, Northfield, MN; granddaughter, Kristi (Craig) Sharp, Hamilton, ND; great grandchildren, Casey, Parker, and Alissa Sharp. His family was the love of his life.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and brothers, Edwin, Arden, and Tilford.
