Gertrude G. Reimer, 80, of Walhalla, ND died Monday, November 22, 2010, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 26, 2010, at 1:00 pm at the Walhalla Lutheran Church, Walhalla, ND. Visitation at the church for an hour before the time of service. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Walhalla, ND.
Gertrude was born July 20, 1930, in Winnipeg, Manitoba in her grandparent's Nikkel home. She attended school in the many one room schools where her father taught. After the 11th grade and summer school, she taught for a year in Blumenfeld, Manitoba. She graduated from the Winkler high school after teaching in Blumenfeld, and taught another year in a Hutterite Colony. On July 15, 1951, she married Peter Reimer, they were married for 17 years. They had six children together and Gertrude worked as a wife and mother until her youngest child began school. After that time, she worked as a homemaker/home health for Pembina County Social Services until she retired at age 62.
The most important things in Gertrude's life were her God, her church, and her family. She was active in her children's lives, in her church and later in life with the Walhalla, ND Senior Citizen's Center, and the Pembilier Nursing Center Auxiliary. She moved to Grand Forks, ND in 2005, to be closer to family and health care.
Gertrude is survived by her children: Bill (Rhonda) Reimer, Grand Forks, ND, Margaret Gadaire, Grand Forks, John (Carolyn) Reimer, Walhalla, ND, Eva (Jerome) Riendeau, Moorhead, Minnesota , Mark (Patti) Reimer, Grand Forks, and Harold (Lori) Reimer, East Grand Forks, MN ; 21 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Jacob Driedger, Waterloo, Ontario, and a sister Margaret Nelson. Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Margaret Driedger, brother, John Driedger, and sisters, Marie Wieler and Eva Driedger.
