Gertrude Berntson, 96, of Edmore, ND passed away September 27, 2009 at the Maple Manor Care Center of Langdon, ND.
Gertrude Camilla Morseth was born March 23, 1913 at Edmore, ND in Ramsey County, the daughter of Ole and Karen (Bjugan) Morseth. She was baptized April 13, 1913 at Concordia Lutheran Church. She was raised near Edmore and attended school in Overland Township. She was confirmed on June 5, 1927 at Concordia Lutheran Church. She graduated from Edmore High School. Gertrude was united in marriage to Leonard Berntson October 25, 1942 at Concordia Lutheran. The couple lived on the ââ¬Å¥Rockdale Farmââ¬Å¥ east of Hampden before moving to his parentââ¬â¢s farm in 1948, going on to purchase it in 1955 at which time they also built the barn. They raised grain, cattle, pigs and chickens along with a big garden. They enjoyed the coming of rural electricity and all the comforts that accompanied it. They resided on the family farm until 1967 when Leonard passed away and the farm was rented to Leonardââ¬â¢s nephews. In 1972 she purchased a home in Edmore. She worked at the Edmore Memorial Rest Home for nine years. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran church and was active with the Senior Citizens, VFW Auxiliary, and the Concordia Ladies Aid. She became a resident of the Maple Manor Care Center of Langdon in December of 2007.
She is survived by her daughter Linda Berntson of Edmore, ND, son-in-law Alvin Carlson of Langdon, ND, grandchildren Amy (Shawn) Gaddie of Grand Forks, ND and Justin Carlson of Grand Forks, great-granddaughters Hope Jeanne Gaddie and Gracyn Beth Gaddie, sister Olga Wallace of Cando, ND, sister-in-law Marion Morseth of Fargo, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard, daughter Bonnie Carlson, infant brother Oliver, brothers: Leif, Joe and Rudolph, sisters-in-law Agnes Morseth, Eunice Morseth, and brother-in-law Robert Wallace.
VISITATION will take place on Thursday October 1, 2009 from 5 to 7pm at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND.
SERVICES will take place at 11:00am Friday October 2, 2009 at the Concordia Lutheran Church of Edmore.
INTERMENT Prospect Cemetery, Rural Edmore, ND.
