Germaine Benoit, 90, of Walhalla, ND passed away Friday, September 28, 2012, at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla. A prayer service will be held Monday, October 1st at 7:00 p.m. at the church, and visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.
Germaine was born May 6, 1922, at St. Malo, Manitoba to Rene and Lea (Fontaine) Marcotte. She was the fourteen of seventeen children. She attended school and worked in her father's general store in St. Malo.
On November 14, 1944, she married Eugene Benoit at St. Malo. They farmed in the Poplar Grove area, until Gene passed away on August 22, 1995.
She was an avid singer and sang at many weddings and funerals and was also a member of the St. Boniface Church Choir. Her favorite song to sing was "Ave Maria." Germaine enjoyed painting pictures and was one of the founding members of the Brush Bunch. Other favorite pastimes were sewing and knitting. She especially enjoyed her friends and family, and loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren very much.
Survivors include her children: Marc (Shirley) Benoit, Dean (Lynn) Benoit, Nicole (Rod) Longtin, all of Walhalla; grandchildren: Marcus (Amy) Benoit, Thompson, ND, Lisa (Shane) Heck, Cavalier, Chad (Karissa) Benoit, Parker, CO, Jennifer (Lance) Lemon, Minot, ND, Amanda (Dean) Novasad, Minot Air Force Base, LuAnn (Paul) Ellefson, Milnor, ND, Luke (Suzette) Longtin, Walhalla; great grandchildren: Laura, Ryan, and Michael Gene Benoit; Van Benoit; Jayce Lemon; Ashtyn and Devin Novasad; Steven, Shana, Shania, Seth, and Samuel Heck; Adrienne Longtin; and Robert Ellefson; step grandchildren: Lincoln and Kim Weiner, Grand Forks, ND and Phillip Weiner, Fargo, ND; sisters: Therese Charrier, Walhalla and Rolande Hamonic, St. Malo, Manitoba.
Also preceding her in death were her parents and 14 siblings.
Celebrant: Rev. Jude Okafor.
Music: LaRae Horgan, Jeanne Gosselin, and Gilles Hebert, Vocalists and Bernadine Kopf, Organist.
Casket Bearers: Chad Benoit, Marcus Benoit, Pat Chaput, Paul Ellefson, Shane Heck, and Luke Longtin.
